Dermaplaning

THE VERY LATEST IN
ANTI-AGING SKINCARE

Dermaplaning is the very latest anti-aging skincare treatment that is popular amongst celebrities. We are the first clinic in Carlisle to be providing this new and exciting treatment.

Dermaplaning is a super effective, non invasive, painless facial treatment in which surface dead skin cells are manually scraped away using a sterile medical scalpel (we use ones that are specifically made for this treatment).

Skin will instantly feel smoother and look refreshed, glowing with a more even skin tone. Dermaplaning also increases cellular turnover.

As an extra bonus, Dermaplaning removes the fine peach fuzz hair on the face. This is important because this excess hair can trap oil and dirt which can lead to other problems with your skin. It also absorbs a lot of our skincare products that we pay a lot of money for. Once we scrape away the dirt, oil and dead skin cells, facial products and other salon treatments are much more effective because they can penetrate the skin more easily.

It’s a myth that “shaving” changes the hair growth. What we do on the surface of the skin can not possibly have an effect on the base of the hair follicle. Dermaplaning does not pierce the skin or cause any trauma, nor does it affect the hair bulb whihc is the cell responsible for how the hair grows, therefore, hair will grow as normal after a Dermaplane treatment.

Dermaplaning is a fabulous all round facial which leaves skin looking revitalised, dewy and healthy. It’s a must have facial for brides or prior to any event as make up glides on effortlessly and looks absolutely flawless.

FAQs

  • What is the difference between Dermaplaning and Microdermabrasion?
They are both forms of physical exfoliation, but the methods are very different. Microdermabrasion sands and suctions dead skin cells, which also helps to uproot clogged pores around the nose, mouth and chin. Dermaplaning safely scrapes off the top layer of skin, so it is well suited for drier skin types and anyone who wants to get rid of peach fuzz. But, keep in mind, both methods are good for almost everyone and it could just boil down to your personal preference.
  • Who is it for?
Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types on both men and women, except those with acneic skin. If you have deep cystic acne, wait until breakouts are clear before trying this treatment. As always, also discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities before starting a treatment. This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the risk of harsh chemicals absorbing into the blood stream and potentially harming your baby.
  • What does the treatment feel like?
Dermaplaning is a painless procedure and can be compared to the sensation of shaving your legs, but in this case, it’s on your face. First, the aesthetician will cleanse and thoroughly dry your skin. Next, she’ll pull an area of your skin taut with one hand, and hold a sterile 10 gauge blade at a 45 degree angle in the other hand and use short, swift strokes to scrape off dead skin cells and peach fuzz.
  • How long does it take?
30-60 minutes depending on which Dermaplaning treatment you have.
  • Are there immediate side effects?
There are no side effects and zero downtime. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may already look very pink, we will apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50 after the treatment and would advise you to apply an SPF for at least 2 weeks post procedure, although, you should be wearing an SPF every single day. Sun or rain!
  • What are anticipated results?
You’ll immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. All of your peach fuzz will be gone, which is why your skin has never felt so soft before.
  • How frequently can Dermaplaning be done?
Dermaplaning removes 21 days worth of dead skin cells, so it’s best to allow the skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle before your next treatment. We recommend having this treatment every 3-4 weeks.
  • How much does it cost?
    £70 - £110
  • Will the hair on my face grow back thicker and darker?
A question we get asked a lot! Although merely an old wives’ tale, many patients are often concerned that the hair will grow back heavier and darker after dermaplaning. This is not the case. The hair that is removed is superficial vellus hair, it will grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment. The treatment does not effect the hair bulb which is the cell that’s responsible for regrowth.
  • How long do I have to wait before I can apply make up?
We advise our clients to leave your skin make up free for at least 24 hours after the treatment. However, this treatment does not penetrate the skin, therefore, if needed, make up can actually be applied straight away.
